Moose History
The moose, also known as the wapiti, inhabits North America and Asia, found in various ecosystems from forests to meadows. Moose, belonging to the deer family Cervidae, undergo a breeding season called rut in late summer to early fall, where dominant males compete for mating rights with females known as cows. Dominant males mate with multiple females, with pregnancies lasting 8-9 months, typically giving birth to one calf in spring. Calves are born with spotted fur for camouflage, facing threats from habitat loss, hunting, and competition, prompting conservation efforts and successful reintroduction programs.
